What is an AI employee?
An AI employee is software given a defined business job. In GPT Business, that can begin with a conversation and a useful draft: a proposal, a customer reply, a checklist or a plan. With supported tools and permissions, the scope can extend into connected workflows.
You do not need to automate your whole business to get started. Describe one outcome, supply the facts it should use, and review what it produces. An AI employee still needs accurate information, clear limits and a person to resolve decisions outside its authority.
What job would you give it first?
- Home services: turn a customer enquiry into a job brief and draft estimate using your approved prices.
- Professional services: prepare a proposal from the client's objectives, scope and exclusions.
- Retail: draft answers to product questions from your catalogue and policies.
- Any small business: organize a procedure, summarize authorized records or prepare a follow-up for review.
These are examples to evaluate against your business. A prepared message is not a sent message, and a draft estimate is not an accepted order.
Give it a clear brief.
Include the outcome, source information, deadline and decisions you want to keep. For a proposal, provide your offer, scope and approved pricing. Ask it to flag missing facts instead of filling them in. For recurring work, also define the trigger and what counts as completion.
“Help me prepare a proposal for this customer. Use my services and approved prices. Ask about missing details, and bring the draft to me before anything is sent.”
Start small. Expand deliberately.
Review a normal task and an exception before widening responsibility. You can keep collaboration focused on one document, delegate a recurring process, or connect multiple roles. These are different scopes within the same product, not a requirement to choose a permanent job title.
Plans, usage and your first demo.
Compare current plans and included usage for calling, AI capacity, storage and teammates. Flexible scope does not mean unlimited usage. The free website demo supports five user messages and can create drafts; live business actions require activated services, supported connections and your permissions. Saving demo work does not start a subscription.
