What are AI agents for business?
Business AI agents are software roles that use information and supported tools to carry out defined responsibilities. A useful agent needs an objective, relevant company knowledge, authority to act, and a clear next step when it reaches a limit. The product label alone does not establish which business actions are available.
GPT Business coordinates those responsibilities through one Manager and a connected CRM. You can direct one task or a broader operation, decide what needs your approval, and take a job back when you want to handle it yourself. Live operation follows confirmed connections and your business rules.
AI agents, AI assistants, and workflow automation.
An AI business assistant may help with an answer or a draft. Workflow automation can move information through defined steps. A coordinated workforce connects roles and customer context around an outcome, including the work that needs to follow a conversation or decision.
Evaluate the actual scope: what information each role uses, what tools it can act through, what counts as completion, and how it handles an exception. A generated document, a sent message, a recorded agreement, and a verified payment are different outcomes. Your setup should make those states clear.
The connected business responsibilities.
- Sales: understand the buyer, use your offer and approved terms, prepare the next sales step, and carry agreed customer commitments forward.
- Customer service: use company knowledge, resolve supported requests, preserve conversation context, and route matters that need a person.
- Operations: coordinate the next action around accepted scope, capacity, timing, and unresolved dependencies.
- Marketing: prepare useful research, campaigns, and content around your direction and authorized channels.
- Back office: connect administrative responsibilities with the information, rules, and supported tools they require.
These responsibilities work through the scope activated for your company. Confirm the live actions and supported systems during assisted setup rather than assuming every integration is available by default.
For small business owners.
Choose a job with a useful finish, such as preparing an intake brief, a quote from confirmed information, or a sales-to-operations handoff. Supply the relevant offer, prices, policies, and exception owner. Review an ordinary case, a missing-information case, and a request outside your rules.
You can grow the scope from that first job. The AI workforce setup guide helps you define the trigger, inputs, decision boundary, and output before delegating more work.
For decision makers in midsize companies.
Evaluate how the work crosses departments. Sales and operations need to agree about the accepted scope; customer service needs the relevant promises; the owner of an exception needs enough context to decide. A shared record should preserve those handoffs instead of making each role reconstruct the conversation.
Confirm access, data practices, approval rules, capacity, and the operational fallback for an unavailable connection. Discuss company-specific requirements with the GPT Business team. Do not treat a general product description as a confirmed security certification, service commitment, or supported enterprise connection.
AI CRM and customer context.
A connected AI CRM gives the workforce a common customer record: the objective, relevant history, agreed details, open questions, and next action. A pipeline status alone is not enough to tell the next role what was promised.
If you take over a customer or change an offer, preserve the update before handing work back. The workforce should resume from the current instructions. The handoff checklist shows how to make that record useful.
Try a connected workflow.
The free live voice and chat demo can create useful drafts and show an illustrative sales journey. Sample agreement and payment steps are simulated. The demo does not contact your customers or grant access to your live systems.
“I run a [business type]. Help me define the work for [outcome]. Identify the company knowledge, supported connections, approval rules, and next handoff. Create a brief I can review, and mark anything not confirmed as unknown.”

Bring your business into the conversation. Create a useful draft before you sign up.
A three-case test for a business AI agent.
Write down the expected output before running a demo. These are proposed buyer tests, not published performance results.
- Ordinary request: supply an approved service, price and handoff owner. Request a customer reply and internal brief. Check that both preserve the same facts.
- Changed instruction: amend the requested scope after the first draft. Check which details were superseded and whether the next role receives the current version.
- Missing authority: ask for a discount you have not authorized. The useful result identifies a decision for the owner; it does not silently turn a request into an accepted offer.
Keep a scorecard with the supplied facts, omitted facts, invented commitments, owner corrections and next action. Compare the work your team must finish after each output. A count from a few demos is a pilot observation, not a reliability guarantee.
GPT Business's our recorded plumbing demo and its limitations includes a correction we had to request. Use it as an example of how to document a test honestly. For live actions, require evidence from the connected destination, such as the actual calendar event or updated record, before marking the job complete.
